This mock is based off of what I would personally do and not what I think will happen.
There shouldn’t be any debate regarding this pick; no realistic amount of value would be enough to trade away this pick.
This may be the most obvious draft selection this year as the gap between Lawrence and Wilson is smaller than the gap between the rest of available QBs. I ultimately think it was the right decision to trade away Sam Darnold as Wilson is the type of caliber prospect to go number one overall in most other drafts. The biggest concern with the Jets taking Wilson is simply the pressure of transitioning from a school like BYU to a city like New York.
Not only is this the QB I would take if I were in the 49ers position, but I also believe that Fields will get drafted to the 49ers on draft night. Justin Fields is the third-highest graded QB on my draft board and his immediate skillset will be an excellent match in the scheme run by San Fransico.
If it weren’t for the fact that Atlanta’s front office already restructured Matt Ryan’s contract, I would likely be taking Lance but instead, I simply chose the best player available. There is an argument to made for why you’d take Pitts instead given their positional need, but Chase is too good to consider that.
The debate over Chase or Sewell decision is not an issue for Cincinnati in this scenario as this is one of the easiest picks to make in recent years. This will give Joe Burrow elite-level upside for both his tackle positions and in the case that Sewell struggles early, he’ll be more than capable of serving as a great guard.
The plan for Miami should be to simply target whoever is available between either Chase or Pitts and that happens to be Pitts here. It will be a minor inconvenience to have both Pitts and Gesicki in the same game plan as each other but this is ultimately the best value possible. It will benefit Tua greatly to have an elite mismatch threat to throw over the middle as well as contested jump balls.
(Trade – NE receives 7th OVR, ‘22 5th RD. NE trades 15th overall, 168th OVR, ‘22 1st RD, ‘23 2nd RD.)
This may come as a surprise though I believe this to be of great value given the uncertainty across their depth at the position. Slater is a truly elite athlete and will translate seamlessly into Joe Brady’s Offense.
Theoretically, I don’t see why Jones couldn’t succeed immediately with the talent in Denver although this pick would simply look bad to the fanbase.
