Cam Smith is a very exciting cornerback prospect, as he’s an uber-confident corner with great all-around skills. He clearly learned a thing or two from his former teammate Jaycee Horn who was also a very aggressive-minded and confident corner. Their press-man coverage technique looks very similar, and both play with the same play style. He made a name for himself in 2021 and was mostly avoided by opposing QBs in 2022. This has made his production seem worse than how he actually plays, but he definitely still brings it on film. Watching him was very fun, and it turned out to be one of the most interesting breakdowns.
Two all-22 games and three other regular games were evaluated, and clips from his film are broken down here. All relevant traits were graded based on his film. Stats and analytics, such as PFF grades, were also factored into his scouting report. Use promo code TREYSCHNEIDER on Underdog Fantasy to match your deposit up to $100. Clip Analysis
In this clip above, Cam Smith makes a phenomenal play in single coverage. He flips his hips well and times the pass breakup perfectly in a big moment.
Here, he’s in man coverage using a trail technique. He doesn’t get targeted but has steller coverage.
In this Twitter clip, he further demonstrates how impressive he is.

Player Notes
- Cam Smith is a long, confident, and aggressive-minded corner who best fits in an off-coverage system. He currently ranks 17th on the FBI 2023 Big Board.
Pros
- He’s the type of player that oozes confidence and plays with an aggressive mind which is needed to be a great corner.
- Opposing teams clearly avoided him and he didn’t give up many yards.
- His ability to flip his hips is excellent.
- He attacks the ball with great body control and remains aggressive through phase.
- Has the needed length to be excellent in press coverage and has elite ball skills for a prospect.
- Has flashed the ability to have robust and violent punches in the press.
- He remains physical all the way through the route stem.
- He sits in the zone patiently and throttles down to the receiver with an elite burst.
- He has a great understanding of leverage and flashes great instincts in zone coverage – has excellent route recognition.
- Is a willing run defender and brings value as a Blitzer.
Cons
- Gets really grabby in bump-and-run situations; he needs to get better at using his body to instill contact rather than holding with his hands. Has 14 penalties through two years.
- Doesn’t have a lot of experience in press-man coverage and looks more comfortable in off-coverage.
- Can get overly aggressive in the press and gives up good footwork.
- His athletic traits limit his upside to an extent – doesn’t have the greatest long speed or lateral quickness.
- Plays too high in off-coverage and gives up too much space.
- Despite having the length and willingness, he doesn’t wrap up well.
