Last season, Jared Verse was looking like a lock first-rounder based on consensus draft boards. He decided to stay, and it’s probably a good thing he made that decision. After watching his film from 2022, I wasn’t a fan, and it was due to his poor get-off. I’ve yet to watch more than one 2023 all-22 game on him, but his get-off looks elite in 2023 for college standards. He made a complete turnaround coming into the 2023 season, and I love seeing that improvement. The top-ten hype seems warranted, as he’s an explosive athlete with a legit pass-rush arsenal. It’s still hard to project his draft stock as much time is left, but he’s currently ascending. Based on his miraculous improvement, it’s hard not to love him as a prospect.

Film Analysis
Verse shows elite quickness in this clip above and gets a sack. He initially gets a solid get-off and uses a slight ‘hesi’ to the inside and then shows strong hands to swipe away the blocker.
This clip was recorded in slow motion to show how perfectly he timed the snap. His textbook get-off almost leads to a TFL, and you can see the improvement from 2022 to 2023.

Jared Verse’s Pros and Cons
- Jared Verse is an explosive pass rusher with proper NFL size. His athleticism and hand usage could lead to elite pass-rush moves at the next level.
Pros
- Made Bruce Feldman’s ‘College Football Freaks List’ – reportedly power-cleans 360 lbs, squats 555 lbs, benches 455 lbs, and also ran 21.1 mph in-game
- Ideal arm length and frame to succeed at any role in the pros
- In addition to having freakish raw athleticism, his snap timing is remarkable for a prospect
- Violent and active hands allow him to execute a wide variety of moves
- Executes a beautiful swim move and flashed the ability to rip
- Shows a relentless motor with an intense attitude.
- A plus run defender with good functional strength and the ability to deconstruct blocks
- Showed outstanding improvement from the year 2022 to 2023
Cons
- For his prototype as a speed rusher, he doesn’t have ideal ‘bend’
- Fifth-year senior who’ll be close to 24 as a rookie
- Tackling ability is a concern as he’s missed nearly 25% of his tackles throughout his career

Final conclusion on Jared Verse
Jared Verse reminds me a bit of a player who went to the same college named Brian Burns. The speed and fluidity, paired with an elite first step, give him immense upside as a speed rusher. I don’t realistically foresee him being an incredible run defender, but you’re drafting him to rush the passer. What I love about Verse is that he can fit any scheme you run and has an area where he thrives. While the top ten hype didn’t seem warranted coming into the year, I see it now. I’ve watched only four EDGEs, and Verse seems like the best one midway through the 2023 season. I cannot wait to get more 2023 film on Verse, and I can officially say I am a fan of his game.
