NFL 2022 Draft – Grades For All Seven Rounds: NFC East

Dallas Cowboys – Overall Draft Grade: C-

RD 1 Pick 24 (24): OT Tyler Smith – C-

RD 2 Pick 24 (56): ED Sam Williams – D

RD 3 Pick 24 (88): WR Jalen Tolbert – B

RD 4 Pick 24 (96): TE Jake Ferguson – A-

RD 5 Pick 12 (155): OT Matt Waletzko – B

RD 5 Pick 24 (167): CB DaRon Bland – C

RD 5 Pick 33 (176): LB Damone Clark – B+

RD 5 Pick 35 (178): IDL John Ridgeway – B

RD 6 Pick 14 (193): LB Devin Harper – C

Dallas had a rather underwhelming draft in a time they need talent in order to compete for a Superbowl. The Tyler Smith selection was a classic offensive Tackle reach as his pass-pro is far from starting-caliber. They passed on multiple better EDGE prospects to take Sam Williams, who isn’t league-ready and doesn’t have great potential. These later picks were better as Jake Ferguson is a great backup to Dalton Schultz, and Damon Clark is a solid linebacker prospect but with injury issues.

New York Giants – Overall Draft Grade: A-

RD 1 Pick 5 (1): ED Kayvon Thibodeaux – A+

RD 1 Pick 7 (7): OT Evan Neal – A+

RD 2 Pick 11 (43): WR Wan’Dale Robinson – F

RD 3 Pick 3 (67): OG Joshua Ezeudu – C

RD 3 Pick 17 (81): CB Cordale Flott – B

RD 4 Pick 7 (112): TE Daniel Bellinger – B+

RD 4 Pick 9 (114): SA Dane Belton – B-

RD 5 Pick 3 (146): LB Micah McFadden – C+

RD 5 Pick 4 (147): IDL DJ Davidson – C+

RD 5 Pick 30 (173): OG Marcus McKethan – C+

RD 6 Pick 3 (182): LB Darrian Beavers – B-

The Giants couldn’t have gone any better with their two first-rounders as they get the two best players according to FBIs NFL Big Board. This was at an excellent value too and both fill important positions of need. The Robinson pick was very frustrating to see, especially after cutting Kadarius Toney. Just based on Toney’s play in the NFL, he could’ve had at least a minor role in Daboll’s Offense, and Robinson wasn’t even a top 10-15 receiver in this class. Flott and Bellinger are players who could be quality starters for this team. The rest of these picks were solid and it was ultimately a great draft, due to their incredible first-rounders.

Philadelphia Eagles – Overall Draft Grade: A-

RD 1 Pick 13 (13): IDL Jordan Davis – B+

RD 1 Pick 18 (18): AJ Brown (trade w/ TEN) – A+

RD 2 Pick 19 (51): IOL Cam Jurgens – B+

RD 3 Pick 19 (83): LB Nakobe Dean – A

RD 6 Pick 2 (181): LB Kyron Johnson – C+

RD 6 Pick 20 (198): TE Grant Calcaterra – A-

Eagles GM Howie Roseman pulled off an elite-level trade with the acquisition of AJ Brown. They still have to pay him, but with their amount of salary available, why wouldn’t they give up the 18th pick to get one of the best young receivers in the league when this is a weak draft class. Jordan Davis at 13 isn’t spectacular, but getting a good long-term replacement to Fletcher Cox is huge, and it’s awesome that Dean landed here as well. Drafting Cam Jurgens allows Landon Dickerson to play as a guard long-term where he’d play better, which makes it worth the slight reach that it was. Unlike most teams in this draft, Philadelphia walks away with a significantly improved roster.

Washington Commanders – Overall Draft Grade: C+

RD 1 Pick 16 (16): WR Jahan Dotson – B-

RD 2 Pick 15 (47): IDL Phidarian Mathis – D

RD 3 Pick 34 (98): RB Brian Robinson – C

RD 4 Pick 8 (113): SA Percy Butler – C+

RD 5 Pick 1 (144): QB Sam Howell – A+

RD 5 Pick 6 (149): TE Cole Turner – C+

RD 7 Pick 9 (230): IOL Chris Paul – B

RD 7 Pick 19 (219): CB Christian Holmes – C

Washington may have done the right thing by trading down, but taking Dotson with Zion Johnson and Trent McDuffie available is a bad decision. Dotson is a good receiver, but this team already has quality talent there compared to some of their other positions. There isn’t much reasoning behind the Phidarian Mathis selection, as it isn’t a big need and Travis Jones was also available. However, Sam Howell in the 5th round is an obvious steal. Chris Paul was also a nice athletic guard to take in the 6th, but overall this was a fairly average draft.
