NFL 2022 Draft – Grades For All Seven Rounds: AFC South

Indianapolis Colts – Overall Draft Grade: B+

RD 2 Pick 21 (53): WR Alec Pierce – B

RD 3 Pick 9 (73): TE Jelani Woods – B+

RD 3 Pick 13 (77): OT Bernhard Raimann – A

RD 3 Pick 32 (96): SA Nick Cross – A-

RD 5 Pick 16 (159): IDL Eric Johnson – B

RD 6 Pick 13 (192): TE Andrew Ogletree – C

RD 6 Pick 38 (216): IDL Curtis Brooks – D

RD 7 Pick 18 (239): CB Rodney Thomas – C

Colts GM Chris Ballard didn’t do anything special this draft as he didn’t have a first-rounder but still did a great job finding value. Alec Pierce is a solid prospect who could be a number two receiver in a few seasons. This was a good landing spot for Jelani Woods and Bernhard Raimann was excellent value as well as Nick Cross. For a draft without a ton of capital to work with, they got four players who have the potential to be impact players on this team which is great.

Jacksonville Jaguars – Overall Draft Grade: D+

RD 1 Pick 1 (1): ED Travon Walker – D

RD 1 Pick 27 (27): LB Devin Lloyd – B+

RD 3 Pick 1 (65): IOL Luke Fortner – C+

RD 3 Pick 6 (70): LB Chad Muma – D+

RD 5 Pick 11 (154): RB Snoop Conner – C-

RD 6 Pick 19 (197): CB Gregory Junior – C

RD 7 Pick 1 (222): CB Montaric Brown – C

This was simply an all-around bad draft for Jacksonville and considering they were dead last in 2021 and hired a mediocre Head Coach, this team’s future isn’t looking good. Travon Walker will likely not be an above-average player for the Jaguars, barring a massive culture shift. Devin Lloyd is a great linebacker, but then to take another one in the third round who plays the same role is just stupid. This team gave a big contract to LB Foye Oluokun, meaning they’ll have three Will linebackers that were high investments. None of the late-round picks impressed either – what a lazy draft from Trent Baalke.

Houston Texans – Overall Draft Grade: A-

RD 1 Pick 3 (3): CB Derek Stingley Jr. – A

RD 1 Pick 15 (15): IOL Kenyon Green – B+

RD 2 Pick 5 (37): SA Jalen Pitre – A-

RD 2 Pick 12 (44): WR John Metchie III – A-

RD 3 Pick 11 (89): LB Christian Harris – B+

RD 4 Pick 2 (107): HB Dameon Pierce – A-

RD 5 Pick 7 (150): IDL Thomas Booker – A

RD 5 Pick 27 (170): TE Teagan Quitoriano – C

RD 6 Pick 27 (205): OL Austin Deculus – C-

The Texans made a pick that surprised a lot of people, but it makes a lot of sense to bet on a cornerback like Derek Stingley as his upside is rare. Kenyon Green was a bit too early at 15 but he’ll still be a massive upgrade on the O-line. The rest of their mid-round picks were great value, and overall this team got a lot better from this year’s draft.

Tennessee Titans – Overall Draft Grade: B

RD 1 Pick 18 (18): WR Treylon Burks – A-

RD 2 Pick 3 (35): CB Roger McCreary – A-

RD 3 Pick 5 (69): OT Nicholas Petit-Frere – C-

RD 3 Pick 22 (86): QB Malik Willis – A+

RD 4 Pick 26 (131): RB Hassan Haskins – C

RD 4 Pick 38 (143): TE Chigoziem Okonkwo – A

RD 5 Pick 20 (163): WR Kyle Philips – A-

RD 6 Pick 26 (204): CB Theo Jackson – D

RD 6 Pick 41 (219): LB Chance Campbell – C

The Titan’s draft-day became a massive disappointment with the news of the AJ Brown trade, but considering the draft alone, Tennesee did very well. Treylon Burks was the best possible replacement for AJ Brown in this draft class, and getting Malik Willis in the third is an absolute steal. Willis can sit for two seasons behind a good QB while their receiving core can grow and eventually start; this scheme will suit him very well too. Roger McCreary is a great scheme fit for this man-heavy defense and Okonkwo is a phenomenal replacement for Jonnu Smith as well. While losing AJ Brown wasn’t necessarily worth it and not every pick was great, there were some picks that have the potential to be game-changers for the Titans in the future.
