NFL 2023 Mock Draft 7.0: The Texans Make An Astonishing, But Intelligent Move (Part Two)

This NFL mock draft is based on what I would do personally if I were the GM for each team drafting. It is a three-round mock draft with trades, and rounds two through three can be found at the bottom. Players are selected based on my own draft board and team needs while also considering where the players would realistically go in the draft. The players with their links listed are the ones I’ve watched four-plus games on, while the rest I’ve watched two-three games on. ~17-Minute Read

Round Two:

32. Pittsburgh Steelers – CB Tyrique Stevenson

Draft Grade – N/A

I am dying to evaluate Tyrique Stevenson, but I know he’s worth this pick for Pittsburgh. Cornerback isn’t a massive need, but Stevenson would be an immediate impact. He has the right size to press and is an above-average athlete. His skill set is perfect for Pittsburgh’s defense.

33. Houston Texans – IDL Adetomiwa Adebawore

Draft Grade – 76.1

Adetomiwa Adebawore to the Texans is one of the most exciting pairings that could happen on draft night. In Demeco Ryan’s system, a hybrid Defensive End is needed to play EDGE on run downs and three-tech on pass rush downs. Adebawore should do a remarkable job playing this role, as he’s the perfect build at 6’2″, 284 lbs, paired with world-class speed.

34. Arizona Cardinals – CB Emmanuel Forbes

Draft Grade – 76.4

Emmanuel Forbes’s play style fits what Arizona should be looking for in a corner. Coach Gannon likes to use a lot of off-coverage and match concepts where Forbes thrives. He can also press reasonably well and plays above what his weight is listed at. This selection is one of my favorites.

35. Dallas Cowboys (Trade W/ IND) – IDL Mazi Smith

Draft Grade – 75.6

Dallas can retain two fourth-round picks for trading down and take the same player they would’ve taken otherwise. Mazi Smith is a quick and powerful nose tackle with the flexibility to play three-tech. That is just what Dallas needs on defense to help complete the unit.

36. LA Rams – EDGE B.J. Ojulari

Draft Grade – 76.8

This pick can essentially just be whichever best EDGE is available. B.J. Ojulari is easily one of the best-projected second-rounders this year. His speed and explosiveness are being slept on, and he has ideal length too. Playing next to Aaron Donald will allow for many single teams, where he should be able to wreak havoc.

37. Seattle Seahawks – IOL John Michael Schmitz

Draft Grade – 74.9

The Seahawks need interior help on the O-line more than anything else now. John Michael Schmitz is the ideal Center to take in the second round. He lacks high-end athletic traits but is one of the surest prospects this year.

38. Las Vegas Raiders – TE Dalton Kincaid

Draft Grade – 77.3

Tight End remains a priority to fix, and Dalton Kincaid shockingly falls here. They’d likely have to find another guy to block inline, but coach McDaniels should be able to tap into his receiving ability. What he does as a hybrid Slot/ Wing TE is incredible.

39. Carolina Panthers – RB Jahmyr Gibbs

Draft Grade – 79.6

I was initially skeptical of Jahmyr Gibbs’s upside, but I’ve recently come around to liking him more. He’s got excellent burst and top-end speed paired with great receiving ability. Gibbs would make Young’s life dramatically more manageable. Plus, this fills a massive need.

40. Pittsburgh Steelers (Trade W/ NO) – LB Jack Campbell

Draft Grade – 75.9

Finding a Mike Linebacker to start next season is vital, and Jack Campell was available to trade up for. This trade-up makes too much sense as it only costs Pick 120 and a future fourth. Campbell is a bonified Linebacker ready to start day one. That is worth trading up for any day of the week.

41. Tennessee Titans – EDGE Will McDonald IV

Draft Grade – 75.7

After addressing the O-line in round one, it’s time to grab an EDGE rusher to be the long-term answer, hopefully. Will McDonald IV could’ve easily gone round one and would fit perfectly as a 3-4 OLB in this scheme. His length and bend are top-notch and give him tremendous upside. His athleticism would finally be unleashed here in Tennessee.

42. New York Jets – LB Daiyan Henley

Draft Grade – 75.3

Daiyan Henley is an ideal fit for the Jets and fixes one of their most significant issues. He’d play weak side Lineback next to C.J. Mosely, an excellent Mike. Henley has plenty of range paired with a very natural feel in coverage. The former wide-out would be an incredible addition to an already highly touted defense.

43. Green Bay Packers – TE Luke Musgrave

Draft Grade – 77.2

With the pick they got for Rodgers, it’d be wise to acquire some receiving talent. Luke Musgrave is an explosive and adequately sized Tight End with stellar receiving skills. He needs to improve his run blocking and develop more secure hands, but his God-given traits are outstanding.

44. Chicago Bears (Trade W/ ATL) – CB Cam Smith

Draft Grade – 76.4

Cam Smith fell due to the amount of depth at Corner, so you may as well take advantage and trade up. Cam Smith would be a quality number two under coach Eberflus. He has the quickness, instincts, length, and demeanor needed to succeed. For only pick 103, this trade-up is far and away worth it.

45. Green Bay Packers – WR Michael Wilson

Draft Grade – 74.8

Michael Wilson is just one of the players I feel good about succeeding for various reasons. He isn’t a speedster but has the needed size and foot quickness to beat press coverage. Moreover, he’s a refined route runner and has solid ball skills. You worry about his injury issue a bit, but he’s too talented to pass up in the second.

46. New England Patriots – SA Jartavious Martin

Draft Grade – 75.2

New England could really use a rangy free safety as a long-term answer. Jartavious Martin out of Illinois provides that for good value. He ran a 4.46 and had an astonishing 1.47 split time. With proper size, he has all the tools needed to excel as an FS under Belichick.

47. Washington Commanders – TE Darnell Washington

Draft Grade – 76.8

Logan Thomas had his moments, but Darnell Washinton has the potential to be a dominant all-around Tight End. He isn’t exactly plug-in-play, but you know for a fact he’ll improve the run game. His size and strength are imposing both as a blocker and after the catch. While QB remains a question mark, you at least bolster the surrounding core.

48. Detroit Lions – WR A.T. Perry

Draft Grade – 73.8

A.T. Perry is a player who doesn’t fit my grading scale well but is genuinely a pleasant prospect. He is worth a second-rounder as he’s 6’4 paired with a 4.47 speed. Additionally, he has excellent ball tracking and runs smooth routes. Some may be surprised to see him here, but he’d be a highly beneficial weapon.

49. New Orleans Saints (Trade W/ PIT) – IDL Keeanu Benton

Draft Grade – 74.6

Keeanu Benton is the primary guy I’m targeting if I’m New Orleans. Trading down was right because he wasn’t of quality value at pick 40. Benton is a strong, feisty Defensive Tackle who’ll benefit this run defense unit. Taking him top 50 isn’t the best-case scenario, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

50. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – EDGE Felix Anudike-Uzomah

Draft Grade – 75.6

EDGE is a vital position group, and Shaq Barrett is getting older. Finding a competent guy to replace him when he’s gone would greatly benefit Tampa Bay. Stylistically, Felix Anudike-Uzomah is a very similar type of player. He’d be a fantastic piece for the future.

51. Miami Dolphins – OT Matthew Bergeron

Draft Grade – 73.9

A swing Tackle is crucial, especially if Terron Armstead is your Left Tackle. Matthew Bergeron has the flexibility to play either side of Tackle or to kick inside to Guard. He is a well-balanced and relatively refined pass-protector; he is just lackluster in the run game. At pick 51, taking a swing Tackle is more than worth it.

52. Seattle Seahawks – EDGE Derick Hall

Draft Grade – 75.1

Derick Hall is precisely what Seattle needs at EDGE, and it happens to be solid value at pick 52. Hall is a long explosive EDGE with near-elite top-end speed. His go-to move being the long-arm, is exhilarating to watch. Playing as an OLB in this scheme, his explosiveness will be well utilized.

53. Atlanta Falcons (Trade W/ CHI) – WR Jalin Hyatt

Draft Grade – 74.1

No one was of good value at pick 44, but here, Jalin Hyatt could be just what Atlanta needs on offense. Drake London is a fantastic short-intermediate threat, but no one is a true vertical threat. Hyatt has elite afterburners and can track deep balls decently well. At pick 53, it’s hard to argue with the value.

54. Los Angeles Chargers – LB Drew Sanders

Draft Grade – 74.9

Grabbing an LB would be helpful, as Kenneth Murray’s contract will expire soon, and Eric Kendricks is only a short-term option. Drew Sanders isn’t a day-one starter but has extraordinary potential. He’s a converted EDGE, so it’ll take time to get used to the pros, but in the meantime, he can be used as a designed Blitzer.

55. Arizona Cardinals (Trade W/ DET) – IOL Cody Mauch

Draft Grade – 75.4

The Cardinals must draft an interior O-lineman if possible, and Cody Mauch, who’s a sleeper, is available. The Cards will likely be running a lot of wide-zone runs with the new OC, and Cody Mauch is an outstanding move blocker. Whether he plays Center or Guard, I see no reason he couldn’t flourish in Arizona.

56. Jacksonville Jaguars – CB DJ Turner

Draft Grade – 75.3

DJ Turner isn’t strictly necessary, but he would be an acceptable option to play the slot and could quickly develop into a stellar outside Corner. His testing numbers and film indicate he is a highly talented player. His speed and burst are remarkable. If he pans out, this would be a bargain for Jacksonville.

57. New York Giants – IOL Joe Tippmann

Draft Grade – 74.4

Center is a glaring need for New York, and this is also excellent value for Joe Tippmann. With the adequate size and high-end athleticism, he is the ideal Center to play in this offense. Daboll often pulls his lineman, and Tippmann is one of the best move blockers in this class.

58. Dallas Cowboys – HB Zach Charbonnet

Draft Grade – 79.2

Tony Pollard is an awesome third-down back, but they have no true bruisers in the backfield. Zach Charbonnet can be an excellent back on short yardage and goal-line situations. Every team needs a second back, and they have a prime opportunity to grab one here.

59. Buffalo Bills – CB Clark Philips

Draft Grade – 74.4

The dime corner position is much more valuable than some think, and Clark Philips is precisely that. We saw how thin this group was when injuries occurred last season. Philips is ready to fill this role and would fit this scheme well.

60. Cincinnati Bengals – CB Kelee Ringo

Draft Grade – 74.7

Cornerback is a bit of a question mark for Cincinnati, and acquiring some more talent would be highly beneficial. Kelee Ringo is of fantastic value at pick 60. He flashed high-end moments at Georgia and possessed a rare physical skillset.

61. Chicago Bears – EDGE Andre Carter

Draft Grade – 74.8

After addressing Cornerback before, it’s time to go out and get an EDGE with some serious potential. Andre Carter wouldn’t have to start day one and could develop into a severe problem for offenses. His size-athletism combo is as good as you’ll find on day two. He only must gain some muscle mass and develop better moves.

62. Philadelphia Eagles – IOL Steve Avila

Draft Grade – 72.7

Finding another Guard remains a priority for the Eagles, and Steve Avila happens to fall in this mock draft. I’m not exactly a fan of his, but he’d be a capable starter for Philly and could turn into a quality one down the road. He’s got intriguing skills for being a big man, and drafting him would help complete this O-line.

63. Kansas City Chiefs – WR Cedric Tillman

Draft Grade – 73.8

After losing JuJu Smith, finding that big-bodied possession Receiver to rely on is essential. Cedric Tillman can be that, as he’s 6’3 and arguably has the best ball skills in this class. Kansas City has strongly prioritized O-line recently, and it’s time to invest in some playmakers.

Round Three:

64. Chicago Bears – IOL Luke Wypler

Draft Grade – 73.9

Luke Wypler could be a quality starter at Center for the Bears. Lukas Patrick is here, but when Wypler is available, why not take him as he could be much better? Chicago runs a wide-zone offense primarily, and Wypler is perfect for that style of play.

65. Houston Texans – Garrett Williams

Draft Grade – N/A

Besides Derick Stingly Jr., which of these Corners do you feel good about long-term? Garrett Williams tore his ACL, but he is worth taking here to play him on the perimeter eventually. His short-area quickness and agility are superb. I see him developing terrific man-coverage ability, especially under coach Ryans.

66. Arizona Cardinals – WR Tank Dell

Draft Grade – 73.7

Tank Dell would help make this Receiving core more versatile. He is only 5’8″ and 165 lbs, but he brings a lot of juice to the game. Dell can beat press rather well for his size, as his foot quickness is top-notch. But, ultimately, he will play in the slot where he can be a genuine RAC threat.

67. Denver Broncos – CB Julius Brents

Draft Grade – 74.0

Cornerback is one of the few needs this team has, and Julius Brents is of outstanding value here. Brents is extraordinarily long and surprisingly quick. Additionally, he has the correct zone instincts to excel in Vance Josephs’s scheme.

68. Denver Broncos – IDL Siaki Ika

Draft Grade – 73.0

Denver could use a Nose Tackle, and Siaki Ika isn’t of horrible value here. After Ika, it’s slim pickings at Nose-Tackle, so it’s wise to grab him here. He is a massive and robust guy but with short arms. Furthermore, his agility is impressive for how big he is. Ika will surely be a serviceable Nose Tackle from day one.

69. LA Rams – Cameron Mitchell

Draft Grade – 73.2

Cameron Mitchell would be an ideal match in the Ram’s defensive system. He’s meant to mainly play as an off-coverage Corner as he is fast and swift but lacks the size to press. In the third round, it’s not the wrong value, and you’re getting a potential quality starter at a critical position.

70. Las Vegas Raiders – IDL Gervon Dexter Sr.

Draft Grade – N/A

With the Raider’s third-round pick, taking an interior D-Lineman makes the most sense. Gervon Dexter is extraordinarily explosive but has some of the worst get-off timing you’ll ever see in a prospect. He’s unique, to say the least, but is worth the gamble if you’re Las Vegas.

71. Minnesota Vikings (Trade W/ NO) – QB Hendon Hooker

Draft Grade – 71.4

I honestly believe Hendon Hooker is overrated, but in a situation like this in the third round, it makes sense. Hooker is actually a decent Quarterback, but the injury, along with his age, is what makes me hold back. Here, he’d get to sit out a year and fully recover and eventually could be a solid QB in a good surrounding situation.

72. Tennessee Titans – WR Jayden Reed

Draft Grade – 74.6

Jayden Reed is highly underrated, and getting him at pick 72 is a massive steal for Tennessee. Jayden Reed is an above-average athlete who’s a dangerous separator. His speed and ball-tracking ability make him a serious deep threat. Furthermore, he can play in the slot and will likely be productive no matter where he lines up.

73. Houston Texans – WR Parker Washington

Draft Grade – 74.3

After taking Quentin Johnston, Receiver is more of a luxury, but it’s a luxury they can afford. Parker Washington would be a fantastic gadget player to have. He likes height and speed, but playing in the slot, he’d be an enormous threat after the catch.

74. Cleveland Browns – IDL Jaquelin Roy

Draft Grade – 73.5

The D-line in Cleveland was the worst position group in the league before free agency. Some nice moves were made, but Jaquelin Roy is undoubtedly necessary to take here. Roy can possibly become a high-end three-tech for Cleveland which is hard to pass up here.

75. Atlanta Falcons – Devon Achane

Draft Grade – 77.9

Even though the backs are already quite lovely in Atlanta, Devon Achane would help take this run game to the next level. He’s a real speedster and also has excellent vision. Tyler Algier is a great power back, but Achane can be a dynamic threat in this offense.

76. Philadelphia Eagles (Trade W/ NE) – EDGE Tuli Tuipulotu

Draft Grade – 73.8

Tuli Tuipulotu would bring much-needed youth to the D-line in Philadelphia. Tuipulotu is a versatile D-lineman who can play from many different alignments. He’d have some reps sprinkled in from day one and has the potential to be an impact starter.

77. LA Rams – HB Tyjae Spears

Draft Grade – 78.0

With Cam Akers’s contract expiring in 2024, it’s vital to have a plan in place, and right now is an excellent time to execute that plan. This Runningback class is loaded – right now is the sweet spot to take them. Spears is an underrated back and would fit this wide-zone scheme very well.

78. Green Bay Packers – SA Antonio Johnson

Draft Grade – 74.9

Safety is a very underrated need for Green Bay, and Antonio Johnson is a surprising faller. Johnson is versatile and can play either two high Safety or as a Nickel Corner. Plugging him in would be an exciting addition for the fans of Green Bay.

79. Indianapolis Colts – IOL Chandler Zavala

Draft Grade – N/A

Chandler Zavala is a prospect who could potentially start for Indianapolis on day one, which is remarkable in the third round. As Shane Steichen took over, a lot of wide zone should be used, and Zavala is an excellent zone-blocker. If he pans, this could be one of the best draft picks.

80. Pittsburgh Steelers – IDL Karl Brooks

Draft Grade – 74.8

Acquiring Karl Brooks at pick 80 is incredible for the Steelers. He is someone who should go much higher than he’s projected. Brooks is a hybrid Defensive End and projects nicely as a three-tech/ four-i Defensive Tackle. His athleticism is quite rare at his size, giving him star potential.

81. Detroit Lions – TE Tucker Kraft

Draft Grade – 75.8

If you miss out on the top-tier Tight Ends, why not take Tucker Kraft, who could start on day one? Kraft isn’t a special athlete but knows the position quite well and is a do-it-all player. Getting coached under Dan Campbell, it’s challenging to see a world where the pick doesn’t pan out.

82. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – TE Sam LaPorta

Draft Grade – 75.5

Sam LaPorta would help make this receiving group much deeper and more versatile. LaPorta is undersized and not much of a blocker, but he brings a dynamic receiving threat. He is fast, agile, and runs crisp routes. This pick allows the Bucs to have a compatible duo of Tight Ends.

83. Seattle Seahawks – EDGE Isaiah Foskey

Draft Grade – 73.7

Seattle doesn’t need another EDGE, but no one else was of good value here. Isaiah Foskey has proper size and solid all-around athletic traits. He doesn’t have to start on day one and could be a future high-end pass rusher.

84. Miami Dolphins – HB Sean Tucker

Draft Grade – 76.2

Sean Tucker isn’t the best RB available, but he’s undoubtedly the best scheme fit. Tucker is fast and explosive, paired with good vision. That makes him an excellent fit in this wide-zone scheme. Running Back is one of the only apparent weaknesses; you have an awesome opportunity to fix that here.

85. Los Angeles Chargers – CB Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson

Draft Grade – N/A

I have yet to evaluate Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, but I know he’d fit exceptionally well in the Chargers system. Coach Staley plays a lot of off-coverage, where he can thrive. The quickness and zone coverage ability is there, but his size and length pigeon hold him to a particular role. Luckily that role can be found here.

86. Baltimore Ravens – IDL Zacch Pickens

Draft Grade – 72.0

Zach Pickens would help strengthen one of Baltimore’s most significant weaknesses. Pickens is three-tech with high-end potential and worth a late third-rounder. Even though Receiver wouldn’t hurt, getting some pass-rush help from the interior is best.

87. New Orleans Saints (Trade W/ MIN) – WR Rakim Jarrett

Draft Grade – 73.7

Rakim Jarrett would complement what the Saints have at Receiver very well. Jarrett is a fast and nimble athlete who’d be very productive out of the slot for New Orleans. He’d also be a solid perimeter player, mainly if he developed better ball skills.

88. Jacksonville Jaguars – SA Jammie Robinson

Draft Grade – 73.9

The Safety room in Jacksonville is rather weak, and getting Jammie Robinson would help fix that. Robinson can play as a Strong Safety in this defense as he is an excellent tackler. He is limited as an athlete, but he certainly understands the position.

89. New York Giants – LB Trenton Simpson

Draft Grade – 74.6

The Giants luck out as they fill one of their primary needs with one of the biggest fallers in this mock draft. Trenton Simpson is a genuine freak athlete but needs much development. In the late third, you can’t go wrong with taking a chance on him.

90. Dallas Cowboys – LB Dorian Williams

Draft Grade – 74.1

Dorian Williams has seamlessly gotten underrated through the draft process. His speed and range at his size are unique. He has excellent length to go along with being a genuine impact in zone coverage. Additionally, he is exceptionally fluid, which will aid him in man coverage as he develops. Play him as a Will Linebacker and just wait for him to shock people.

91. Buffalo Bills – SA Sydney Brown

Draft Grade – 74.4

Safeties didn’t go very early for one reason or another, and the Bills ended up with a steal due to it. Sydney Brown is the ideal Safety to take over when Poyer inevitably leaves. His coverage ability and all-around athletic tools will be very beneficial down the road.

92. Cincinnati Bengals – HB DeWayne McBride

Draft Grade – 77.1

With the Joe Mixon contract looming, it would be wise to grab a potential replacement. This pick also allows them to have a quality backup in place. DeWayne McBride is a very intriguing back who’s got phenomenal contact balance. He lacks athleticism but has all the traits you desire out of a back.

93. Carolina Panthers – WR Rashee Rice

Draft Grade – 71.8

Carolina desperately needs Receivers, and Rashee Rice is simply the best available. Rice has solid athleticism for being so large but lacks the traits to excel on the perimeter. With that being said, he’s a reliable option to throw in with the mix they already have.

94. Philadelphia Eagles – SA Daniel Scott

Draft Grade – N/A

Daniel Scott is a great candidate to replenish this secondary with some youth. Scott is perfect for playing as a Hybrid safety in this defense as he is fast paired with adequate size. This addition would wrap up a terrific all-around draft.

95. Kansas City Chiefs – TE Zach Kuntz

Draft Grade – 74.7

This pick is among some of my very favorites in this mock draft. Zach Kuntz had one of the most electrifying combine performances ever. At 6’7″, 255 lbs, he has elite speed and surprisingly good quickness. The film wasn’t disappointing either; he has a legitimate shot at becoming a superstar TE. You couldn’t draw up a better succession plan for Kelce than this.

96. Arizona Cardinals – IOL Andrew Vorhees

Draft Grade – 73.6

While you already grabbed an Interior Lineman, Arizona’s current group is highly futile. Andrew Vorhees is the perfect Guard to take, as he can redshirt a year while they rebuild and eventually be a serviceable starter.

97. Washington Commanders – IOL Juice Shruggs

Draft Grade – N/A

Center is a significant need for Washington, so it makes sense to reach a little and take someone who could very well start. Juice Shruggs would be the ideal Center for the new OC, Eric Bienemy. Coaches like Bienemy highly covet his size and athleticism.

98. Cleveland Browns – EDGE Keion White

Draft Grade – 73.5

Some may be surprised to see Keion White get taken so late, but this is his value. As a developmental piece, there’s nothing wrong with taking him here. As previously mentioned, White is the most overrated prospect this year. However, he’d help make this D-line get taken more seriously.

99. San Francisco 49ers – OT Blake Freeland

Draft Grade – 73.0

Grabbing a Tackle is an absolute must for San Fran, and that’s because they lost Mike McGlinchey to free agency. Freeland is far from a day-one starter but can be the long-term answer they desperately need. His superb athleticism would be a perfect match in this wide-zone scheme.

100. Las Vegas Raiders – CB Corey Trice

Draft Grade – N/A

The Cornerback room isn’t exactly a strength for Las Vegas, but adding Corey Trice would surely help. Trice is a long Corner with decent speed and possesses press skills that fit well in this scheme. He’ll have to develop his man coverage skills, but he is the kind of prototype you bet on in round three.

101. San Francisco 49ers – CB Jakorian Bennett

Draft Grade – 72.5

Jakorian Bennett would be an excellent addition to a secondary that needs more depth. He’d be a solid slot and has the flexibility to play outside. At Maryland, Bennett showed impressive production and also had stellar testing numbers.

102. San Francisco 49ers – WR Jonathon Mingo

Draft Grade – 74.1

As the last compensatory pick, Jonathon Mingo is perhaps the most significant addition so far. Mingo is built to play under a coach like Shanahan. His size and physicality will be used to the best of his ability in this scheme.
