O’Cyrus Torrence Scouting Report: An Enormous And Refined Guard

O’Cyrus Torrence is not precisely what you’d expect out of a guy-sized like him. Rather than being a bully, he is a consistent and technically sound player. He still employs his power well, though, as he can seamlessly move defenders. It’s just not in a dominating fashion as you’d expect. The biggest surprise was how well he held up in pass-pro. He uses his massive and powerful hands well in pass-pro and is a rock against bull rushes. Despite not being an ultra-aggressive mauler like his size would suggest, he has many satisfying traits. The big question is whether he’d be worth a first-round pick.

Three all-22 games and two broadcast games were evaluated, and clips from his film are broken down here. All relevant traits were graded based on his film. His scouting report also factored in stats and analytics, such as PFF grades. Use promo code TREYSCHNEIDER on Underdog Fantasy to match your deposit up to $100. Clip Analysis

In this clip above, O’Cyrus Torrence does an excellent job of creating a lane for the back. He gets in the Defensive Tackle’s chest and effortlessly drives him back a solid couple of yards.

In this clip, he shows how well he holds up in pass-pro. Against the D-Tackle, he gets his hands on him quickly and doesn’t give up any space.

Here he shows he has solid athletism along with his power. He does a great job of finding work in space.

Player Notes

O’Cyrus Torrence Bio

  • O’Cyrus Torrence is your classic massive mauling Guard with the flexibility to work in an inside-zone offense. He’s consistent with very few weaknesses. He is currently the 30th-best player on the FBI Draft Big Board.

Pros

  • With a tremendous anchor and excellent hand placement, there is no going through him, only around.
  • Prototypical size to play Guard – 84-inch wingspan.
  • Has just enough get-off to get into the second level.
  • Hands are as large and robust as they come.
  • Fantastic anchor for a prospect.
  • Very steady and active hand usage in pass-pro; rarely overextends.
  • Has a rugged demeanor, ideal for playing Guard.
  • Has the power and mass to move people with ease.
  • Showed good awareness on screens.
  • Zero penalties in his Senior year, per PFF.

Cons

  • Lacking foot quickness and speed.
  • Doesn’t dominate the way you’d want him to on double teams.
  • Footwork in pass-sets is a work in progress.
  • Didn’t play in a ton of true pass sets.

Final Conclusion

While he may not be a true first-round talent, A gap or inside-zone team in need of a Guard can still make great use of him in the late first. As he can pass-protect reasonably well, he also fits a pass-heavy offense. He’s a caliber of player you keep from slipping past the 25-40 range of the draft.
