TE Darnell Washington Scouting Report: A Freak Athlete With Unique Traits

Darnell Washington is a Tight End who’s impossible not to be intrigued by. He has a rare combination of size and speed and imposes his will as a blocker. Playing for Georgia, he didn’t receive much usage, but the traits clearly pop up on film. He is a surprisingly versatile player, but he’ll have to be used in the right role in the NFL to have high-end production. There are a lot of desirable qualities to his game, and it’ll be interesting to see how he’s used in the NFL.

Two all-22 games and two other Youtube games were evaluated, and clips from his film are broken down here. All relevant traits were graded based on his film. His scouting report also factored in stats and analytics, such as PFF grades. Use promo code TREYSCHNEIDER on Underdog Fantasy to match your deposit up to $100. Clip Analysis

In this clip above, Washington makes a very impressive play after the catch. He shows the strength and balance to break the tackle, then makes an insane leap for his size.

Here makes a fantastic reach block playing as a wing Tight End. He drives the DB into the ground with ease.

In this one, he makes one of the most challenging catches you’ll see in college. He has the vertical speed to break away from the DB and then held on after a huge hit.

Player Notes

Darnell Washington Bio

  • Darnell Washington is a massive versatile Tight End who blocks his butt off. He can take the top off the defense and run through you after the catch. He currently ranks 43rd on the FBI 2023 Big Board.

Pros

  • Has a combo of size, strength, and speed that makes him a nightmare matchup
  • Has surprisingly good agility and quickness
  • Flashed some highlight reel catches and has elite jumping ability paired with an insane catch radius
  • Has the size and strength to absorb massive hits and hold on to the ball
  • Due to his size, he is very difficult to press
  • Is a handful to bring down after the catch; has outstanding balance paired with a nice stiff arm.
  • Is a physically imposing player as a run-blocker, and after the catch
  • Has the size and raw power to make pancake blocks on linebackers
  • Has the flexibility to be used on move blocks as a wing TE
  • Thrives off play-action passes; great at selling the run
  • Good at finding soft spots in the zone

Cons

  • Struggled with drops over the middle of the field, in addition to concentration drops
